The domestic goat (Capra hircus Linnaeus, 1758 or Capra aegagrus hircus) is a species of herbivorous ruminant mammal, belonging to the family Bovidae, subfamily Caprine. Most of the time, goats are domesticated, but they are also found in the wild in some areas of the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan or Iraq. They have been domesticated since at least the 8th millennium BC. They are bred for their milk, leather, hair and meat.
